Congress Dinner and Ceilidh

The Congress Dinner and Ceilidh will take place at the Historic Beach Ballroom from 7pm on Friday 21st August. The Beach Ballroom is an art deco building on the sea front which first opened in 1929. It is home to one of Scotland's finest dance floors - famous for its bounce - which floats on fixed steel springs.

There will be a 3 course dinner featuring Scottish dishes followed by a Ceilidh and an 'Address to a Haggis' complete with bagpipes. For those who are not familiar with this tradition, a Ceilidh is a traditional gaelic social gathering featuring group dancing with traditional and some more contemporary Scottish tunes. All dances are 'called' (explained and demonstrated at the beginning of each tune) by the band so you do not need to be experienced to take part. We are pleased to welcome Cabrach as our Ceilidh band and you can view a clip of the band here. Haggis will also be served during the Ceilidh and will be 'piped in' by bagpipes and then 'addressed' using the Robert Burns poem.

There will also be an awards presentation and the new ESRS committee will be introduced.

If you would like to attend this event you should indicate this during the registration process. Please note that both minimum and maximum numbers apply for the evening and that while there may be places available once you arrive at the conference this cannot be guaranteed and so to avoid disappointment advanced booking is advisable.

The cost is £35 for conference attendees and £66 for companions.

There is no dress code but comfortable shoes are recommended for Ceilidh dancing and traditional Scottish clothing is not uncommon.
